Hello Zontians & Friends,

I hope everyone is staying warm and cozy. It is cold days like these that make me happy to have Zoom meetings instead of going out in this bitter wind. It was certainly lovely sitting at home for the last meeting and listening to the inspiring Jess Sexauer. I hope everyone was able to watch the beautiful video she put together just for us. I believe we truly honored Amelia by sharing the story of this other young female pilot. Congrats to Sue Seaver for winning the Amelia Earhart quiz!

December Newsletter

Dear fellow Zontians and friends,

I hope everyone had a safe and relaxing Thanksgiving. Thanks so much to Liz Hart and Anthonia Olatubosum for giving us an update on the Malden club’s hard work passing the End Child Marriage bill! Let’s all do our part and continue to let Speaker DeLeo know how important this is to our community.

The 25th of November marks the start of the 16 Days of Advocacy with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and ends December 10th with Human Rights Day.

Hello Zontians and friends,

I want to start off by saying thank you to our wonderful panelists from our Domestic Violence event. Monica, Emily, and Danielle provided us with some great information.

As Thanksgiving and the holidays draw closer I’d like us to think about thankfulness and understanding.

Happy autumn Zontians and friends!

What beautiful weather we’ve been having and the golf tournament was no exception (thanks Marge)! It was a chilly start that day but the sun was shining and the golfers were lining up (6 feet apart of course). We had an epic turn out and even needed a waiting list. Financially, it was our best year yet. A big “thank you” goes to the golf committee and the extra helpers. Looking on the even brighter side, with Covid forcing us to change things we have learned some new tricks that may be beneficial to keep using.

Typically, the June President’s message would be focused on recapping a very successful Silent “no more!” Auction. While it saddens me to miss the opportunity to gush about our wonderful auction, I am determined to make our 2021 auction a humdinger of an event!! Stay tuned!

Many thanks to our May speaker, Jessica Hernandez, LCSW, Director of Survivor Community Support Programs and our board member, Danielle Petrangelo, Senior SAFEPLAN Advocate, SAFEPLAN Program, for engaging us in a discussion about the difficulties in helping victims of domestic violence during the pandemic. In spite of the numerous challenges facing them, the YWCA continues to provide amazing support to all victims. Since the YWCA has been unable to do any fundraising due to COVID, they are in great need of financial support. Our club members voted unanimously to make a donation of $400 to be used for emergency services for survivors. Some members are also donating the money they normally would be paying for dinner meetings every month to this important cause. Thank you, everyone!

We have quite a bit of business to take care of at our June 8th virtual meeting. We will induct our newest club member, Maria Maloney. We are very excited to have Maria join us and look forward to working with her!  We also welcome Sue Seaver, who transferred to our Quaboag Valley club from the Zonta Club of Southern Maine. We will install a new executive board for the 2020-2022 biennium. In addition, we look forward to recognizing our 2020 Young Women in Public Affairs award recipient, Jena Marie Roseman, who will join us at our meeting.

What a difference a year makes! One year ago, we were putting the final touches on our annual Silent “no more” Auction. Today, most of us are hunkered down in our homes, unable to socialize with our friends and families and donning masks for the rare trip to the grocery store. It all seems so surreal. I find myself experiencing the entire gamut of emotions in the course of 24 hours- sadness, fear, happiness, irritability, panic, anger, overwhelmed, powerless…  I could go on, but you get the picture. We are all experiencing this pandemic in our own ways, yet there are similarities. I know that I am not alone when I say that I miss BEING WITH my Zonta sisters! This is a new way of life and it is rather uncomfortable, but we Zontians are strong and resilient women! We are all learning new ways to conduct our lives and our Zonta business.

October 2019 Newsletter

Dear Sister Zontians and friends,

Happy fall to all! Our Zonta club is in full swing and we have so many exciting events during this Centennial anniversary biennium! I am not going to recap the fantastic lineup of upcoming speakers and events in my president’s message. As always, Mary has done her usual impeccable work with our club’s newsletter. I want to express my sincere thanks to Mary for her efforts in putting together this wealth of information. I encourage every member to carefully read our monthly newsletter. While we all may not be able to attend every meeting each month, every member is expected to stay informed of what is going on within our club and district!

My thoughts lately have been filled with what I can do to encourage and promote engagement within our members.  We often speak about increasing our membership. While this is absolutely necessary, it is also necessary to take a look at recommitting to our “WHY”…… why did we join Zonta??

June 2019 Newsletter

Sincere thanks to all donors and guests who contributed to another successful Silent “no more!” Auction on May 6th!  Everyone’s tireless efforts raised $5,641 towards international projects aimed at stopping violence against women and children, enhancing the quality of life for our women veterans, support of much-needed programming for Gándara Esperanza Women’s Transitional Support Services, and purchasing books for our Strong Women and Girl’s Read program. I truly hope that everyone feels a sense of pride and accomplishment in creating such a wonderful event. Thanks to our members and the many donor businesses for their generosity. Please show your appreciation by supporting the businesses noted on page 10.

Thanks to Kris and Lisa’s amazing creativity, we had the most stunning gift baskets that I have ever seen! When we work together, we can and DO make a difference locally and globally!

April 2019 Newsletter

Spring is coming and so is our annual Silent “no more!” Auction on Monday, May 6th. We have a very important decision to make immediately, regarding the third recipient of our auction proceeds. Please carefully review the two proposed auction recipients on page 2 of this newsletter- Gándara Esperanza Women’s Transitional Support Services or ‘Strong Women and Girls Read’. Please respond to me no later than Friday 4/5 with your choice for the 3rd auction recipient. Please do not respond all.  Thank you, in advance, for your prompt attention.

On April 8th, we will have a regular business meeting. Mary Ann Rubis will give us an update on Zonta International activities. We will also hear more about activities related to our Centennial celebration. Please call or text me 413-626-5656 by Thursday, 4/4 to confirm attendance, as I need to get an accurate headcount to the club.
